Your child deserves a school that sees them.

Harare International School's Pathways Programme is built for learners who deserve more than a standard curriculum. This includes those with neurodivergence and various learning challenges. Welcome to personalised learning, structured, and taught by specialists, right here in Zimbabwe.

How it works

Two Pathways. One Goal.

Every student deserves a path to independence and a life well-lived. Both programmes are built around a personal Individualised Intervention Plan (IIP), with progress tracked and reported to parents as agreed.

Pathway 01

Modified Diploma
Pathway

For students with learning delays that limit access to the standard curriculum. Students remain in mainstream classrooms and the course content is modified to meet their IIP goals, not the other way around.

Our teachers prepare lessons aligned to each student's goals. A dedicated Modified Pathways Coordinator oversees the whole programme. Additional programmes at secondary level include City and Guilds Vocational Skills, Physical and Health Education, and Design.

Pathway 02

Life Skills & Independent
Living Pathway

For students with more extensive learning delays.

Literacy, numeracy, independent living, and real work skills are taught on campus, all tied to each student's IIP goals.

Students on this pathway also receive personalised life skills coaching in a trade of their choosing.

Coaches work with defined goals and clear rubrics.

One-to-one Teaching Assistant support is central to both programmes. Parents can provide their own TAs or, alternatively, HIS will provide one. All TAs receive training to align with HIS standards and are active participants in your child's learning journey.

Why it works

Built on Four Pillars

Individualised Instruction Plan

Custom goals, comprehensive monitoring, and ongoing support for every student from day one.

Integrated Supports

Subject teachers, one-to-one TAs, peer mentors, on-site internships, and access to co-curricular activities and sport.

Authentic Assessment

Portfolios, performance-based results, and progress rubrics. We measure what matters for real life, not just what is easy to grade.

Transition and Independence

Post-secondary planning, work experience logs, and daily living skills to build confidence and independence beyond school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions people have been asking about our Pathways Programme.

Eligibility and fit
The programme is designed for students who have a documented learning difference that makes the standard curriculum inaccessible without significant modification. This includes students with various learning delays and neurodivergence. Eligibility is determined through a review of your child's neuro-educational assessments and previous school records. If you are unsure, the best first step is to contact our Admissions team for a conversation.
The Pathways Programme serves students from Grade 6 through to Grade 12, ages 11 to 18. Both pathways are available across all year groups, though the specific programmes of study, including City and Guilds Vocational Skills, are introduced from Grade 10-12.
We will help you with this. First, we will review your child's documentation and assessments, then meet with you and your child. Our Pathways Coordinator will discuss your child's learning profile, goals, and the day-to-day experience of each pathway with you.
  • The Modified Diploma Pathway suits students who can access the mainstream classroom with modified content.
  • The Life Skills and Independent Living Pathway is designed for students who benefit most from a curriculum focused on functional literacy, numeracy, and real-world independence skills.
Yes. The programme is designed to flex with your child. If your child's needs, goals, or progress indicate that a different pathway would serve them better, the Coordinator will discuss this with you and adjust the plan accordingly. No placement is permanent, and your child's growth always drives the decision.
The IIP
An IIP is a personalised document that sets out your child's specific learning goals, the supports they will receive, and how progress will be measured. It is created at the start of each year through a collaborative process involving you as the parent, your child's teachers, the Pathways Coordinator, and any relevant specialists. It draws on your child's existing assessments, previous IEPs or IIPs, and the goals you want your child to work toward.
You are. Along with the Pathways Coordinator, subject teachers, Teaching Assistants, and any external therapists or specialists working with your child. HIS believes that parents are the most important voice in this process, and no IIP is finalised without your input and agreement.
The IIP is reviewed formally at least once per semester. In addition, parents and students receive updates on progress biweekly. Goals are re-evaluated and adjusted as needed. It is not always necessary to wait for the scheduled review to make changes.
