HIS Vision–Where Together We Thrive and Reach for Excellence
Dear Parents, Students and the broader HIS Community,
Welcome to the Harare International School (HIS). It is my pleasure to serve as the interim director for a second year as we transition to Ms. Arden Tyoschin who will assume the position of Director beginning August 2018. As my eighth international school spanning more than thirty years of international education, I have found HIS to be a high quality school in which everyone, from the maintenance and cleaners through the faculty and administration, is deeply committed to ensuring that every day, each and every student has the opportunity to come to a safe, clean, well maintained facility and to interact with a professional staff that places student learning in a supportive and encouraging environment as its highest priority.
Maintaining all three of the International Baccalaureate programs, the Primary Years Program, the Middle Years Program and the Diploma Program, HIS is the only International Baccalaureate World School in Zimbabwe. Utilizing these three programs provides a smooth transition between our three school divisions allowing students to easily progress through the grades. While achieving excellent academic progress and achievement, our students experience a true international perspective and develop the important qualities of integrity, leadership, adaptability, resilience, and compassion for others.
The HIS campus combines open areas of lush vegetation with unique, purpose built facilities to provide an environment where teachers can positively impact the lives of our students. This impact transcends the classroom and produces students who will become successful global citizens, leaders and active stewards of our precious environment.
The school’s strategic plan, exceptional teachers and support staff, parents, and the HIS Board of Directors are aligned with and support achieving our vision:
HIS: Where Together We Thrive and Reach for Excellence
I am happy to have the opportunity to serve in such a magnificent school and to look forward to helping pave the way for a bright and successful future for HIS. Whether you are new to Harare International School or have been a part of our community for some time, I invite you to participate with us as we prepare our students for the future.
John E. Gates
Interim Director, Harare
