Sharing the Planet - A Walk Through the Possibilities Presented by Grade 5 Students

Students learn about organizing their ideas for a presentation.

One of the big highlights of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the PYP Exhibition. This takes place in the last few weeks of Grade 5.

Each student picks a topic they care about and over the course of about two months they carry out research, interview experts in the field, and create an exhibit to present their findings.

Our Grade 5 students recently presented their PYP Exhibition under the theme Sharing the Planet.

Students thinking through their PYPx topics

After weeks of dedicated inquiry, research, and collaboration, students showcased their learning through engaging and interactive exhibition stations.

They explored a range of real-world global issues, including sustainability and the impact of human activity on the environment.

Each project reflected thoughtful investigation, strong conceptual understanding, and a growing sense of responsibility to make a positive difference.

The students kicked off their PYP Exhibitions with an energetic performance.

The PYP Exhibition is designed to bring together the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes students have developed throughout their learning during their first years of school.

Guided by the PYP’s transdisciplinary themes, such as Who we are, How the world works, and Sharing the planet, students are encouraged to move beyond traditional subject boundaries and engage with authentic, real-world challenges.

A key highlight of the exhibition was the sense of student agency. Learners took ownership of their inquiries, asked meaningful questions, and reflected on how their learning could lead to action within their community and beyond.

The exhibition is the culmination of weeks of research, thinking, writing, and planning.

Visitors experienced not only informative displays, but also passionate, student-led presentations that demonstrated confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking.

This year’s exhibition was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, growth, and purpose. We are incredibly proud of our Grade 5 students for their dedication, creativity, and commitment to making a difference.
