Learning Support at HIS

Harare International School (HIS), believes that every student has the potential to thrive . We appreciate and celebrate that each learner is unique hence we offer a range of  interventions designed to support students’ learning styles and needs, for them to access the curriculum. Here’s how we ensure that all students receive the support they need:

1. Individual Intervention  Plans, One-on-One and Small Group Instruction 

HIS offers individualized and small group instruction. We develop tailored learning plans for students who require additional support. These plans address specific needs, outline goals, and include strategies that foster academic success. These sessions help reteach and reinforce concepts, build skills and boost confidence in a supportive setting tailored to each student’s learning pace and need.

2. In-Class Support
Our learning support specialists collaborate with teachers to provide in-class assistance and strategies to support student learning and engagement. 

3. Assistive Technology Integration
For students with tech accessibility needs, we offer a range of assistive technologies, including speech-to-text software, audiobooks and various other accommodations. These tools help support students with diverse learning needs, enhancing accessibility and engagement in their educational experience..

4. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Support
Recognizing that emotional well-being is key to academic success, our counselors provide structured social-emotional learning support. This includes support with transitions,mindfulness programs, peer mentoring, and strategies to help students manage stress, build resilience, and develop interpersonal skills.

5. Parent Collaboration and Workshops
We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to successful learning. Through regular parent workshops, meetings and training sessions, we provide families with practical strategies to support their children's learning at home. This collaboration helps create consistency and reinforces skills beyond the classroom, ensuring every child’s success.

6. Academic Coaching and Executive Functioning Support
For students who need support with time management, organization and study skills, HIS provides resources to help develop these essential abilities. Our focus is on strengthening executive functioning skills, empowering students to become independent, self-regulated learners who can manage their tasks with confidence and success.

7. Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS)
Our structured Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) ensures that students receive targeted interventions tailored to their unique needs. Whether through extra instruction, behavioral support or specialized learning accommodations, our MTSS approach allows us to proactively address and support students through their learning challenges.
