Beyond HIS
Eisteddfod
The National Institute of Allied Arts runs the Eisteddfod Zimbabwe, and is scheduled for 4weeks in March of every year.
Harare International School proudly sponsors the last week of the Eisteddfod in our Performing Arts Center. Many Secondary School Choirs, Brass Bands, Jazz Bands, and Orchestras take to the stage to showcase the skills they have developed throughout the year.
The festival itself, features a plethora of performances, both instrumental and vocal. The participants are Primary through Secondary Schools students.
Imagine our world without the enrichment brought to us daily through the arts in their many forms! Keeping them alive from one generation to the next requires the nurturing of the budding artistry in children from a young age. The provision of skills, structures and spaces to maintain the enthusiasm and focus will ensure the love and practice of the art form, which captures the children’s attention for a lifetime.
It is with this in mind, that Eisteddfod is supported by Harare International School.
The Fair Trade Trade Fair
The Fair Trade Trade Fair is organized by our students in grade 8 and open to our school community. It is the end result of a unit on fair trade, marketing, and ethical consumerism.
The descriptions below were written by our students after the fair and the images you see were created by our students to advertise the fair trade/green-focused businesses in attendance:
"When we first got the assignment of the fair trade trade fair, everyone was excited. From the entire unit everyone learnt a massive amount ranging from advertising techniques, being a helpful employee of a business, to interview tips and tricks! Now being masters of the techniques needed to organize such a fair, we can’t wait to see the next grade 8s do this unit. "
"It was hard work, but the end result was worth it! The entire experience was fantastic thanks to all the people who contributed and helped out. A big thanks to"
"We supported ethical companies and local businesses that really need support. It would be great to see them grow and continue to encourage ethical consumerism and the positive things they stand for. Many people said they would like to purchase from the businesses in the future, so they can hopefully expect many customers to come"
HIS would like to thank the businesses for working with the grade 8s!
Mohawks For Medics
Enormous thanks to each and every donor as well as some courageous Warthogs who marked fundraising milestones with new hairstyles, we raised a total of $8,650 to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for doctors and nurses on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic in Zimbabwe.
With special thanks to individual donors and families whose incredible generosity played a significant role in helping us surpass our fundraising goal of $8,000 for Mohawks for Medics.
This helped us make deliveries of PPE to Wilkins Hospital, and Parirenyatwa Hospital.
Our HIS identity is truly lived when we can make a positive impact. Thank you to the generosity of our community.
International Day
International Day is a spectacular event where students showcase the national heritages of more than 50 different countries represented at the school. During that day they will be a Flag Parade and the PTO hosts the international food and culture fair . All HIS families are warmly invited to join in the fun.
