Welcome to the Harare International School Library and Media Center. If you love to read, you’ve come to the right place! Currently we have over 25,000 books available for parents, teachers and students to check-out…over 400 of which were just purchased for the 2016-2017 school year! Our collection includes numerous titles from various genres: graphic novels, comic books, horror, historical fiction, realistic fiction, non-fiction, etc. There are over 11,000 titles in our “Everyone” collection, 3000 titles in “Junior Fiction”, 4000 titles in “Adult Fiction” and 7200 titles in “Non-fiction”. The library also issues most class text and reading books and other resources such as grade-level appropriate DVD’s and videos. We also have an ever-growing number of books available in various languages which support our Mother-tongue programme and we are looking into branching out to develop an electronic library.
Our library and media center offers numerous seating and table areas for visitors to work independently or in groups. We are setup for wireless access using either individual devices or the five Macs located in the resource section and there is a printer and scanner available for student use. There is also a Mac Lab which is reserved mainly for classroom use. Right now our collections are housed primarily on the first floor, due to the Mac Lab being upstairs. Our students are taught to use the worldwide DEWEY system and shelf helpers to access library books, as well as the very specific online Destiny search option for older students. Secondary students are also taught correct citation and referencing that is grade-level appropriate and in line with our Academic Honesty Policy for any research they undertake. We warmly welcome book title suggestions for future orders from parents and students.
