We are an International Baccalaureate school fully authorized in the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. The School’s program for Grades 11 and 12 is the IB Diploma Program. Following the Northern Hemisphere School Calendar, our school year runs from approximately mid August until mid June.
The ES section of our school is for students from 3-11 years of age. We are a fully authorized IB School and follow the pedagogical framework of the Primary Years Program (PYP). As an authorized PYP school, we firmly believe the formative years of learning are essential when encouraging our students to become lifelong learners.
Welcome to the Secondary School at Harare International School, where teachers and students work enthusiastically and rewardingly to meet the school’s Mission Statement and the IB Learner Profile, in a challenging but joyful environment. The Secondary School encompasses Grades 6 to 12.
Harare International School has a vibrant Performing Arts department. Our performing arts is divided into Drama/Theatre, Visual Arts, Music and Film. Our purpose as the Performing Arts Department is to improve student achievement in arts education. An education in the arts requires curricular scope and sequence and the intellectual rigor of experiential learning. Creativity is the foundation of the performing arts, inciting curiosity, imagination, courage, determination, discipline, open-mindedness, skill development and appreciation for the aesthetic.
Research indicates that students who are involved in the athletics program manage their time more effectively. They have a more serious sense of their own growth and development. After-hour commitments also teach organizational skills, collaborative skills, decision making skills and inter- and intra- personal skills. Interscholastic sports programs are indeed the events when positive longlasting school memories are made.
There are certain moments in life where rituals help note transitions from one stage to another. In schools, one important rite of passage is graduation. We orchestrated a dual graduation ceremony with livestreaming, followed by a surprise performance. We hope our 2021 Graduates carry with them the image of the Flame Lily and its inherence oxymoron – a symbol of subtlety, a symbol of choices, with the capacity to bring joy, wellness and hope to the world. Chiratidzo chesimba, chiratidzo cherunako, chiratidzo chakanaka, chiratidzo chesarudzo.
