We are an International Baccalaureate school fully authorized in the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. The School’s program for Grades 11 and 12 is the IB Diploma Program. Following the Northern Hemisphere School Calendar, our school year runs from approximately mid August until mid June.
Elementary School
The ES section of our school is for students from 3-11 years of age. We are a fully authorized IB School and follow the pedagogical framework of the Primary Years Program (PYP). As an authorized PYP school, we firmly believe the formative years of learning are essential when encouraging our students to become lifelong learners.
Secondary School
Welcome to the Secondary School at Harare International School, where teachers and students work enthusiastically and rewardingly to meet the school’s Mission Statement and the IB Learner Profile, in a challenging but joyful environment. The Secondary School encompasses Grades 6 to 12.
Arts
Harare International School has a vibrant Performing Arts department. Our performing arts is divided into Drama/Theatre, Visual Arts, Music and Film. Our purpose as the Performing Arts Department is to improve student achievement in arts education. An education in the arts requires curricular scope and sequence and the intellectual rigor of experiential learning. Creativity is the foundation of the performing arts, inciting curiosity, imagination, courage, determination, discipline, open-mindedness, skill development and appreciation for the aesthetic.
Sport
Research indicates that students who are involved in sport manage their time more effectively. They have a more serious sense of their own growth and development. After-hour commitments also teach organizational skills, collaborative skills, decision making skills and inter- and intra- personal skills. Interscholastic sports programs are indeed the events when positive long-lasting school memories are made.
Productions
Music and Drama are a vital part of life at HIS. Apart from the intrinsic value of these activities at all levels, we believe that the performing arts enrich our understanding of the world and help students learn the dispositions for a successful and fulfilled life: being part of a team, collaboration, shared responsibility, self-confidence, focus and the importance of disciplined rehearsal and performance.
